The (funny) founder of SugarChills, Laura talked with us about the inspiration for starting her company of natural skincare products and how important it is to share her success by helping small entrepreneurs. We love her great sense of humor and her good soul!

Tell us a little bit about your background/story and what inspired you to create SugarChills.
When I was expecting my third son I began to look for more natural ways to care for my (our) body... Being pregnant, my sense of smell was annoyingly strong AND I was overheated most of the time AND it was Summer in Miami… making myself the Perfect Storm of Deodorant Challenges.

I came across some quasi-effective natural deodorants, but wasn’t satisfied so I developed my own. “Hmm,” I thought to myself, “this is pretty good. Other people might think so, too!” It turned out they did! And thus SugarChills natural body care was born…. it all started with a deodorant powder!

What did you want to be when you were a kid?
Any job where I could work independently, create things, and have ample time to daydream brainstorm. Mostly this translated to “graphic designer” when I was younger… which is interesting because between creating labels/tags/photos I do quite a bit of graphic design now.

Having said this, more than anything I wanted to be a wife and mother… so I’m quite happy to be able to both at the same time!

How can we watch out for chemicals in conventional beauty products?
Read. The. Labels.

What's the biggest lesson you learned while starting SugarChills?
I opened my shop a month before my third son was born and since then it has grown about as fast as I can handle… between caring for three boys age five and under, homeschooling the older two, completely renovating a house, and moving!

So… what have I learned? A Diet Coke now and then won’t kill you.

If you could be any place if the world right now, where would it be?
The Land of No Young Children. I’d like to spend a night there each week, please.

If you had to choose... wine or chocolate?
Chocolate, as dark as possible. My latest favorite: Himalayan Sea Salt with Goji Berries by Indahphoria.

What's a natural/non-toxic product you could never live without?
Organic food! Not only is it usually tastier to eat, but it’s the main ingredient in most of my SugarChills creations!

If there is one thing/thought/idea that you could pass on to the next generation, what would it be?
Share what you’ve been given!

I am so thankful for the tremendous opportunities and resources I’ve been given. I feel a responsibility to share with other aspiring business owners who have an entrepreneurial spirit, but maybe not the financial resources to realize their dreams.
