Home Made Facial Masks and Skincare Recipes
Home made facial masks and skincare recipes
At Ecobold we also believe in making your own stuff, be it your own almond milk or your own facial mask, here we bring you a skincare expert, Hollie Jean, a licensed esthetician who's passionate about organic products, to give you a few awesome home made recipes for facial masks and skincare treatments, here you go:
Miracle creams, magic serums, and the promise of youth in jar. This is what we are sold in department stores and magazines; countless brands selling their version of “insecurities be gone” in a jar. The truth is topically over the counter skincare, no matter how fancy the label, will always cost more than it corrects. Quality ingredients are certainly worth the price and can provide satisfactory results, however these ingredients don’t come from a department store, they come from the earth. After these ingredients have been taken from the earth and processed enough to survive the long shelf life required to make it to your bathroom they more than likely are no longer “quality.” Don’t fret, there is a simple and very cost effective way to use great skincare without using preserved “quality ingredients.” The answer, create your own!
You needn’t go any further than your own kitchen to get started. Here are just a few of my favorite natural skincare recipes:
Organic Deep Oil Cleanser
This can be used on any skin type including oily and acneic. Do not be afraid of oil, our skin depends on it, so do yourself and your skin a favor and work a deep oil cleanse in at least once a week. Castor oil is the star ingredient in this cleanser. If over used castor oil can actually have a drying effect on the skin, take care to mix appropriately. For oily skin types use more, for dryer skin types use less. This can be mixed and stored or mixed per use. Dilute the castor oil in organic jojoba, extra virgin olive, or sunflower oil. Apply the oil to dry skin and work into skin for at least 2 minutes. Steam face with a warm wash cloth to remove. Oil breaks down oil, so use this to cleanse skin of dirt, oils, and makeup. The castor oil will work down into the pores to decongest clogged pores while naturally hydrating the skin helping to regulate oil production. It’s a win-win process.
Organic Raw Apple Cider Vinegar Astringent
This amazing vinegar contains malic acid which gently exfoliates the skin helping to smooth and even out complexion. It can soothe and relieve itchy, scaly skin. Also, just as any good toner should do, it balances the skin’s natural pH. It works best for normal to oily skin types. Make a weekly batch by mixing it with water (1/4 vinegar ¾ water) and storing in a spray bottle. Use it in place of your hair conditioner once a week and it will help to remove styling product buildup.
Organic Aloe Vera
Everyone knows when you get sunburn to apply aloe, but this product is also a great daily toner. The fresh gel from leaves of the aloe plant in your home or purchased organic bottled aloe vera juice work great to balance skin’s pH as well as soothe skin and relieve irritation.
Mother Earth Anti-Aging
Feeding your skin what it needs to build healthy cells is what anti-aging is all about. Mix 1 avocado, 1 cooked carrot, ½ cup of heavy cream, 1 free range chicken egg, and 3 tablespoons of honey. Apply this to the skin; it makes a lot so use it all over face, neck, and décolleté, leave on for 25 minutes then rinse by steaming with a warm wash cloth. Pat the mixture off of the skin, do not wipe. What makes this mask such an amazing anti-aging recipe is the fact that these ingredients are FRESH! They went straight from the earth to your skin providing it with an abundance of the vitamins and minerals required to build strong healthy cells.
Light Lemon Hydrator
Mix ½ cup of distilled water, 2 tsp of vegetable glycerin, and 5 drops of lemon essential oil. This mixture is hydrating for every skin type, but may not be emollient enough for those with very dry skin. Shake before each use.
Night Time Moisturizer
Night time is the best time to drench the skin in hydration. Apply a thin layer of jojoba oil to face, neck, and chest. Allow to sink in before hitting the pillow as it will leave an oil spot on your linens if you don’t. Jojoba oil is molecularly similar to our own natural oil sebum. It will safely hydrate the skin promoting soft supple skin without clogging pores or feeling greasy.
While these products may not come in a fancy jar (which you could always put them in if it mattered that much to you) they will always outperform over the counter skincare. Fresh ingredients that are not submerged in chemicals and preservatives are more potent and effective. So the next time you are about to drop serious money on a facial cream, ask the sales person how long ago that super special ingredient died and how it was preserved? Bet they don’t say today or yesterday.
