Wanderlust Festival: A Green Music and Yoga Festival
The Wanderlust Festival sounds like a very exciting Yoga and Music Festival. Just by interviewing one of the organizers, Sean Hoess, I was drooling over the idea of going! Well okay I don't think I can stretch as well as these professional yoga people, but I'm sure I can learn by then!
They say that they are a very sustainable festival because they focus on local sourcing, organics, reusing, and carbon offsets. There's a waste reduction system in place where they recycle, compost and introduce biodegradable materials that ends up diminishing the trash footprint of the festival by 80 to 90 percent. On top of that there are water filling stations for everyone to fill up their bottles.
There are also several activities going on during the day, and that includes hiking, a midnight yoga class, concerts by some jazz bands and some amazing food and organic wine. In the 2010 festival they even introduced a local farmers' market, which is an amazing idea! You can rent a hotel room (they have partner hotels), camp or rent a house near by the festival.
What is a Wanderlust? According to them, the word Wanderlust dates back to the 19th century, the age of Romanticism. People across Europe and the US reacted to the first signs of urban sprawl, overpopulation and industrialism by losing themselves in nature, the visual arts, music and emotion. They feel that Wanderlust's creative and spiritual community is just a large family of modern Romantics, people for whom nature acts as a muse. Nicely said!
