Organic Mattress and Organic Baby Mattress

Wondering if organic mattress is worth the price? This is an amazing and informative interview on why organic mattresses are so much better not only for the environment, but also for your health. The owner of Foam Order, a store also known as Natural Sense, Mike Gorham, took us to the back of his store for a tour on how organic latex mattress are made. He tells us his story on how he has always been green focused and talks about what's going on in the synthetic mattress industry, why they can be very toxic to your health and how to know if a company sells good organic mattresses or not. He also goes over the dunlop process versus the talalay and why the dunlop is better.

An organic mattress lasts anywhere from 25 to 40 years, depending on where you buy it from. Natural Sense keeps a record of every single mattress that they produce to know exactly the hardness and thickness.

Their latex is certified 100% natural by the Eco Institute and the casing is made with certified organic cotton and certified organic wool. If you don't know, wool is naturally fire retardant. An interesting fact is that starting in July 2007 the law in the United States changed so that every single product advertised as a mattress must meet national flammability standards, which can be achieved naturally with wool or with synthetic fire retardants...and you know what that means...you're breathing and touching those chemicals every single sleeping hour! Your skin, other organs and your lungs are breathing in these toxic chemicals as you sleep. Another fact is that until 2005 there was a chemical put in our mattresses called PDBE, and this chemical is linked to breast cancer in women. According to Gorham, the mattress companies cannot use PDBE in the US anymore, but they do continue to use it in some Chinese foams that show up in some furniture in the US, even though they're not supposed to. This also becomes more and more toxic with time.

Foam Order has all kinds of thicknesses and layers. The organic cotton layer is extra strong and they also sell  foam topper, wool topper, pillow, organic cotton sheet, stuffer, beds,
organic crib mattress for babies and kids, and other accessories.

They even recycle their plastic! Way to go Foam Order.
