  Research has shown that soybean oil is the most effective natural insect repellent and that catnip is 10 times more effective than DEET. Studies have shown DEET can cause an extensive list of neurological problems, especially for children, and is toxic to fish, birds, and aquatic invertebrates. To improve the effectiveness of this product we have added a blend of 7 essential oils which are listed in a 2002 study follow-up in the New England Journal of Medicine as being just as effective as DEET for repelling insects.
